"I've now had and used my 3 motor CamVac CGV 386 for 5/6 weeks installing a gated ducting system connecting it to a bandsaw, planer thicknesser, table saw, disc sander and most importantly over my lathe. Even as a keen woodworker, the result from this investment is superb with a much cleaner and moreover a healthier/safer working environment being the end result."

"Let me start by saying that this is basically a great product but have struggled with a couple of things. The hose supplied with my Camvac by no stretch of the imagination would fit over the inlet as Record suggest, in fact I ripped mine trying so a cuff is needed especially if you need to remove the hose on a regular basis, Record do supply one but perhaps it should be two, they have solved that problem with a bayonet fit on a newer model but with the deals available on this model the bayonet fit is an expensive option. One of the covers on the air outlets was not a particularly tight fit and popped out destroying a light above it. Record encourage you to install a noise reducing hose which is the same as the 2.5 inch accessory hose, it does reduce the noise by diverting it away from you but it also seems to reduce the air flow. I bought the Camvac to replace a double bag extractor as the filter on those is not so great and end up putting dust back into the workshop. Running with just one fan I don't feel that dust and chip extraction is as good as my old extractor although it is certainly not putting dust back into the atmosphere, it really needs both fans running to get the same level of extraction making it twice as expensive to run. One thing I would love to see is a transparent panel so you can see when it is getting full, at the moment you have to remove the clamp and lift the lid off to find out. That leads me on to the capacity, Record quote a "capacity", not volume, of 90 litres which is correct but just for the volume of the empty bin, if you take into account the volume the 2 motors and filter take up the actual volume of dust and chips it can collect is quite a lot less. In fact the extractor would not function once the level got above the inlet spigot and halfway across the inlet is 47cm of height - bit of schoolboy maths makes the usable volume now less than 75 litres so I am having to empty it twice as often as my old extractor. With all the promotion of the made in the UK Camvac I was surprised to receive a power lead with a European connector and an adapter to UK 13A plug, this makes the cable stick straight out from the wall instead of hanging down, Record do supply a sensibly long lead for a change. Finally I have a lot of what look like micro blisters in the paint surrounding all the holes and openings on the lid, so far Record have not commented on these. Would I buy another one? yes but I would be better informed."

It is far quieter than the DX1000 it replaced, it is obviously more powerful - technically double the air flow, but in practice it feels far more than twice as effective. The filtration is stunning. After extensive use with a surface planer, band saw, table saw and a drum sander, no dust had made it to the second stage filters let alone the third. So pleased with so far - workshop is cleaner, quieter and safer. "
