Do you supply timber for the trade?

At Yandles we specialise in sourcing and cutting green oak for use in timber frames, cladding and construction.  If you require a large quantity or very large sizes of timber, you can send your cutting list via email to: timber@yandles.co.uk and we will provide you with a quote and turnaround time.

What is the Self Selection Centre?

All our sawmill orders have a minimum charge and a turnaround time of 2 to 5 working days, so customers who are looking for smaller quantities and need to collect immediately are best served buying their timber from the self-selection centre.  We have a huge selection of individually priced boards that, for a small charge, can be cut down to the dimensions you require.  As well as being more cost-effective, the turnaround times are a lot quicker as the timber does not need to be cut from our stock.

Do you supply structurally graded timber?

Yes. Using the Temperate Hardwood(TH) strength grades we can offer TH1(D30) and TH2(D24) for sections smaller section oak, with a cross section over 2000mm2 and a thickness over 20mm and THA(D40) and THB(D30) for heavy sections equal or greater than 20000mm2 and a thickness equal or greater than 100mm.  This means that the Oak can be used in the same predictable, economic and reliable way as any other construction material.

Yandles can now offer onsite Visually Graded Structural Oak to BS5756 2007-a1:201!

What are the turnaround times for the sawmill?

We aim to cut timber orders within 2 to 3 working days, although this will depend on the stock level in the sawmill and the time of year.

Orders from the self-selection centre can be cut or machined to size as the customer waits and collected from us on the same day in store.

If you have selected for your timber to be delivered please allow to 2 extra working days for the timber to be delivered to you.

As well as cutting to any size you require, Yandles stock a range of standard sizes such as 100mm2, 150mm2 and 200mm2 green oak beams that are available for collection the same day.  These can also be delivered by double or triple pallet (please note that depending on length, some of the beams might need to be cut down to length to fit).

Environmental timber statement

Environmental concerns are important within the timber consumption and purchasing at Yandles. It is considered that with best practices observedtimber and wood products are the ultimatesustainable andrecyclable materials, requiring low energy consumption to process and are thermally efficient in use whilst having a high carbon retention. At Yandles we go to great lengths to verify that our suppliers our meeting the very highest environmental standards, whilst ensuring minimum waste within our production.

We ensure all the timber we purchase is legally and sustainably obtained from correctly managed forests in line with British law and aim to ensure it is from PEFC or FSC sources where possible. Yandles is fully committed to playing their part in eradicating illegal logging and poor forest management as set out in the United Kingdom Timber Regulations (UKTR) which came into effect in 2021.

Whilst we are not able to run the chain of custody scheme to the nature of our self selection centre making auditing impossible, we work hard to ensure the timber is from the correct schemes. We have long term relationships with main suppliers ensuring quality, reliability and trust in the timber and its source. We carry out due-diligence on all new suppliers and ensure the timber they supply us comes from a recognised schemes.

In our manufacturing processes, in both the sawmill and the joinery shop the we aim not to waste anything from the processes we go through. From the finished product that reaches the end user to the production off cuts that go for sell in our self selection centre. The sawdust we collect is used by local farmers as bedding and the first cuts of the logs and the unusable faults in the timber are sold as parcels for a myriad of uses from natural fences to pallets to small turned light pulls. Any cardboard and packaging materials we receive are reused for our mail order business and the rubbish we produce that we cannot re use is sent to a recycling centre. Our electricity contract is from a renewable energy supplier and the company vehicles are moving towards electric as the leases expire and the vehicles are replaced.
