"I did some research online before purchasing this item to repair an old garden bench. I wasn't entirely sure of the quality of what I had ordered never having ordered anything like this before but I need not have worried; it's absolutely perfect. It now shows up the rest of the bench to be honest but I am very pleased with the quality and finish of this item and would have no qualms about ordering from Yandle's again if I needed to."

"Nice bench slats. I bought seconds as the bench is really just for decoration - but the slats were perfectly good. I can’t say the same about the delivery service though. Website says delivered to customer - but the driver had forged my signature and I had to go looking around the neighbourhood for the package. Poor customer service from the delivery company when I complained - hence only three stars!!"

Sapele

Sapele is a medium to dark reddish brown heartwood predominantly from West Africa. It generally has a more random grain appearance meaning it can be liable to interlocked grain. Interlocked grain spirals around the centre of the tree thus alternating intermittently and causing a 'rough' effect, this can generally be reduced if not eliminated by heavy sanding. Finishing from the sawmill

It is up to you and really depends what look you are after. They will go grey if you leave them and that is a natural barrier and is generally my choice with oak. Otherwise you can vanish/oil them and this will provide extra protection especially from moisture which is the worst thing to cause decay, but it will be an ongoing job with most oils. I have found with tung/danish oil that if left outside over winter as it will start to weather black and then grey in a matter of months and to avoid this it requires constant re coating. We have recently starting stocking Restol which is able to protect the wood and maintain the oak for several years without a re coat and is proving very popular.
