"For the price of these you can't expect much straight out of the box (or plastic roll in this case lol). Someone once told me that if you want to learn to sharpen chisels buy a cheap set, 'cause you'll be sharpening them all the time - good advice but (imo) worth doing as you can work it out pretty quick and it'll stand you in good stead for the future. This set was blunt when it arrived and needed some work on a grinding wheel to rough out the levels, sharpen to the appropriate angle and given a thorough stropping. Must admit, having completed over ten projects, these chisels have only required stropping in use to keep a good edge. I've not used expensive chisels before so don't know how they compare but am happy with these ones for now - they ARE worth a punt if you are a beginner, are willing to learn and short on funds for a pretty expensive hobby."
