Product Description

UNITING TWO BRITISH MADE PRODUCTS FOR ONE FANTASTIC FINISH!

The best-selling High Gloss Finishing Wax from Hampshire Sheen is a carefully designed combination of carnauba and microcrystalline waxes suspended in a low odour solvent to enable you to build up a super-tough glossy finish to turned work that is also fingerprint-resistant and Food & Toy Safe when cured.

It has a stiff texture and may appear’ crumbly’ in the tin at times (particularly in cold weather). This is perfectly normal due to the very high wax-to-solvent ratio. When used correctly, you need less of the product than you may think to achieve a fantastic quality finish.

Uses

Use for the finishing of decorative and functional wood-turned items on a lathe. It can also be used on ‘flat’ woodwork using a polishing mop to buff.

Colour and Aroma

Container

They are supplied in a lacquer lined tin with 130g of product inside.

Storage

True Grit

True Grit is a wax-based, all-natural, abrasive wax paste, hand blended in West Yorkshire. It is made from a unique blend of waxes, natural abrasives and oils.

True Grit is designed to take your workpiece from 240-grit up to around 1000-grit, whilst reducing airborne dust and leaving you with a silky smooth end product.

True Grit can be used as your final finish or as a stepping stone between sanding and your final wax finish.

As well as a final finish it also works amazingly well to denib and polish a lacquer finish bringing your finished item up to a near-mirror gloss!

True Grit is like liquid sandpaper, reducing scratches left by the initial sanding and eliminating fine dust produced by traditional sanding at higher grades. The grinding powder is designed to break down to a finer mesh as they are used, while still maintaining a cutting edge.

Basic application

  1. Sand piece immaculately down to 240 grit;
  2. For best results, apply sanding sealer and burnish when dry;
  3. Turn on the lathe and run at around 400-600 rpm. Work in theabrasive paste using a paper towel. The Abrasive in the wax will start to break down making your piece smoother whilst trapping the fine dust within the wax.
  4. When you are happy with the finish turn up the speed on your lathe and use a clean piece of paper buff until no residue.
  5. Evenly apply a light coat of the high gloss wax with a soft paper towel;
  6. Allow to dry a little and then buff. (Drying times vary, depending on ambient temperature and humidity;
  7. Apply additional coats for a deeper shine
