Our Wenge woodturning blanks are made from dense African hardwood known for its bold appearance and strength. The timber features a deep brown to nearly black base with fine lighter streaks that add natural contrast. The grain is typically straight with a coarse texture which gives finished pieces a strong modern look.
Wenge turns cleanly with sharp tools and steady cuts. Due to its density it responds best to slower speeds and light passes. Tear-out can occur if tools are dull but is easily controlled with proper technique. The wood produces crisp details which makes it suitable for bowls spindles and decorative turning projects.
Finishing Wenge highlights its dramatic colour and grain. Fine sanding is recommended to close the grain before applying finish. Oils and hard waxes deepen the dark tones while film finishes such as lacquer or polyurethane create a smooth durable surface. Pore filling may be used for a flatter finish if required.
These woodturning blanks are ideal for experienced turners looking for a distinctive hardwood with excellent durability.
