American Cherry Woodturning Blanks avalible in bowl blanks and spindle balnks.

American cherry is renowned for its rich, warm color that starts as a pale pinkish-brown and deepens over time to a rich reddish-brown. The heartwood is typically more vibrant, and the wood darkens naturally with age and exposure to light.

Cherry has a smooth, fine texture and a straight, uniform grain, though occasional wavy or curly figures can add visual interest. It often features subtle mineral streaks or dark flecks, contributing to its refined appearance.

It’s relatively easy to cut, shape, and sand, making it a go-to choice for both beginners and seasoned woodturners. The wood turns smoothly on the lathe and finishes with a smooth, silky surface.

Cherry is somewhat soft, but it is stable, resisting warping or cracking when properly dried. While it’s easy to work with, it can darken during the turning process, so it’s important to use lighter cuts to avoid burns. It responds well to stains, oils, and finishes.

Cherry (Prunus serotina) is a warm, attractive hardwood with a fine, smooth texture and easy workability, making it ideal for woodturning. It turns beautifully, sands effortlessly, and finishes to a lustrous surface, making it perfect for a range of projects like bowls, furniture, and decorative pieces.

Please note the sizes displayed are approx. Due to timber coming from all over the world starting thicknesses vary up to 1/4 Inch depending on the origin. We use the umbrella guides of 1inch,1.5, 2, 3 & 4inch, but please be aware that all planks are planed one face to highlight the grain and to allow us to see faults which can result in under thickness.
This can result in planks being under the thickness depending on the starting thickness. For example, Oak 2 inch is normally 2.1/8th before we plane which allows 2 inch thickness after we plane and 2x2 spindles or blanks. Native Ash is often 17/8th to 2 inch after drying and before we plane. This can plane to 1.75 inch and result in 1.75 inch x2 inch spindles.
Whilst we always try and maintain the thickest board possible, sometimes it can be under-size.
If you require a finished size of 2x2 we recommend purchasing a larger blank such as 3x3 & machining this back yourself.
If you require sawn spindles or blanks please state in the comments section of the order and we can cut to order in our sawmill. Please note this service can take up to 10 working days.

Not sure where to start. Really disappointed in the recent order I placed with Yandles. Ordered 10 pieces, 3 had woodworm and one had a massive split in it. The thing that really bothers me is, the split piece clearly had ‘split’ written across it along with a discounted price. I paid full price. I emailed Yandles twice letting them know about it and hadn’t heard anything from them. I got an email asking to review my recent purchase so that’s why I’m sharing this terrible experience. Also just about every parcel I’ve had from Yandles has been poorly wrapped. This one split and I had half my order delayed at a depot somewhere because the box fell apart and half my pieces went missing. Not a great experience at all.
