The Record Power Coronet Herald has proved to be the most popular and versatile lathe on the market. Packed with features but perfectily sized for smaller workspaces this powerful lathe has become a firm favourite with the woodturning community.
Record Power has many decades of expertise in the manufacture and supply of superior woodturning lathes. Professional woodturners and keen hobbyists helped develop the Coronet Herald. Record Power believe they have produced a world-class machine for woodturners of all levels.
Innovative design solutions have greatly enhanced the Herald’s capabilities, features, and performance, surpassing anything previously possible for a machine of this size. It delivers top-end professional performance at a fraction of the size and cost of comparable heavy-duty machines.
To honor Record Power’s heritage in a modern way, the lathe’s design blends the elegant, balanced curves of the earlier Coronet series with a more streamlined and efficient form. The Herald not only looks great but also feels great—its excellent engineering, ergonomic design, and high-quality manufacturing make it a pleasure to use while ensuring rock-solid performance.
The Record Power Coronet Herald comes with the following features as standard
- Swivel headstock
- 14″ bowl capacity over the bed
- Cast iron lathe bed
- Digital variable speed
- M33x3.5mm Thread
- Self-eject tailstock
- Forward and reverse motor functions
*Please note, leg stand pictured is not included & is available as a separate purchase.
Please Note: Tailstock pictured is an older variant, the new one is self ejecting
State-of-the-Art Motor and Full Electronic Variable Speed
The 750 W motor features the latest in motor technology to give huge amounts of torque, comparable to lathes over twice the size and motor rating. Instantaneous speed change is achieved using the easily accessible control panel. Reversing is also offered for sanding or left handed turning (Must be used only with suitable locking systems for chucks and accessories).
Rotating and Repositionable Headstock
Unlike most cast bed lathes, the headstock of the Herald can be rotated 360º, optimising access and also making it ideal for left-handed turners, who can effectively turn this machine into a fully left-handed lathe using the reverse facility of the control system. A bearing system beneath the headstock allows it to be located in popular positions. The headstock can also be moved along the lathe bed if required.
The tool rest holder is locked in place instantly with the easy to use cam locking system
Heavy Duty Tool Rest Stem
The 25 mm diameter tool rest stem helps minimise vibration, giving a smoother and easier cut.
3 Step Pulley
A 3 step pulley is provided for maximum versatility. For most turning the middle pulley is perfect and provides good torque but if you need maximum torque comparable to much larger lathes for heavy cuts or low speed work, then the bottom pulley has immense torque capability. For very small work, polishing or burnishing acrylics, the top pulley gives access to very high speeds.
Hand Wheel
The headstock features a substantial hand wheel to turn the spindle, making fitment of headstock accessories much easier.
Heavy Duty Spindle Lock and Indexing
Holds the spindle securely and offers a full 24 point indexing function.
Innovative Tailstock Design
The tailstock has been designed to allow easier access to the cam lock handle at the rear. It is also profiled and open on one side for comfortable grip when sliding along the bed.

Excellent lathe, does so much more than my old one. Very quiet and the speed range is really impressive. Allows me to turn large off centre logs with no problem.

I bought a Record Coronet Herald yesterday. Great service, great advice. I assembled it with a friend last night. We loaded a 12″ bowl blank and ran it up to speed. We suddenly realised that we were both just stood there watching it rotate wondering where the vibration and sound had gone. It is just astonishing!

Bought the Herald after trying out a friends for an hour, to replace a seventy year old Coronet Minor! What a difference! No vibration, rock solid, instant dial up speed change, masses of torque, spannerless banjo adjustment. I just time travelled to the 21st century. What’s not to like? Well after a few weeks use I have no criticism at all, in fact I heartily recommend this lathe.

I recently purchased the new Coronet Herald Lathe and am absolutely delighted so far.. Having almost spent a year trying to decide what lathe to buy, I finally came across the all new Herald and just at the right moment!. I had previously and still do use our school Union Graduate lathe, an extremely robust machine. At some stage of its life, some bright spark had added an electronic box allowing forward reverse and adjustable speed,( no belt changing) incredible!,
I could only then view lathes with this adaption unfortunately some were to costly, to small or to large. This purchase for me needed to be an all rounder and offer me a tool that will last until I cant turn anymore. Its an elegant but as it is a robust design and sits well on the supplied legs. Its powerful and has the ability for the headstock to be positioned at an angle should you find stretching over when hollowing a little uncomfortable. It certainly has all the trappings a modern turner needs. However it isn’t that perfect as the emergency stop button attached to the main electronics box does prove to be a bit precarious as you have to either stretch over your spinning work or reach around the back to stop the machine quickly when needed!!. Its electronic box works on maintaining the set working speed when cutting..v clever. The motor pulley handle that is used to apply tension to the drive belt is to small however it does have a small viewing hole that magnifies the indexing number slots. I assembled the unit myself and found everything self explanatory. I would very much recommend this lathe if you are looking for a long term investment for the keen amateur or professional turner. Thank you Record

Very good and sturdy late. Runs very smoothly and quietly. Only thing I would like is a spindle lock.
AdrianGill (verified owner) –
Excellent lathe – let down by no spindle lock (using index lock invalidates guarantee according to user manual !’)
Also emergency stop button is situated over moving work piece when swivel head in use.

This lathe was bought for my husband and he is thrilled. From the first time I contacted customer service dept, online ordering, through to the excellent speedy delivery, subsequent easy assembly to the first turned item everything has been excellent, thankyou. The lathe in his words is ‘it’s a joy to work with, smooth, quiet and with variable speed makes things so much more convenient’. Have no hesitation in purchasing from you again (as we have done) would recommend Yandles to everyone. He looks forward to actually visiting you in Martock at some point!

There are a lot of what you might call ‘entry level’ lathes, but this is the one you should get, because it’s the one you’ll wish you’d have bought. I know it’s more than twice the price, but you can be assured you spent your money wisely. If you decide you don’t like wood-turning, then this will be infinitely more re-saleable than a cheap mini lathe. I looked around for a second-hand Coronet Herald – could not find one.
My only quibble, is the action of the tailstock quill. It’s not super smooth and there is no sleeve on the handle to make winding it in and out friction-free. You can;t grip the handle firmly, because it has to turn in your fingers. I find myself gripping the edge of the wheel rather than using the handle at all. Hoping it will get better with use.

Delivery was good and the lathe is a lovely piece of kit that works well and fits my needs to perfection. Its well made and very versatile for a small lathe and pleased with the advise received from Yandles on the items I would need in addition to the lathe to get me started with wood turning.
AlanRose (verified owner) –
I ordered the Record Coronet Herald lathe and the bench mounted feet on package offer from Yandles to install on my heavy shop built bench as an upgrade from my small Axminster wood lathe. I am very happy with my choice as it is a great little lathe that has given me more power and a bigger swing over the bed and the head swivel option that gives me even bigger scope for turning larger bowls. Also gives better access for turning as I have limited workshop space. So far I cannot find fault with this lathe for my hobby and can only highly recommend it along with Yandles good value and service.
KeithLangelaan (verified owner) –
What a difference the lathe makes! A wee beauty this lathe, smooth, quiet, certainly enough power for the capacity of the machine. Very pleased with it overall. only niggle is the finish of the tool-rest, but nothing that a few minutes with a file didn’t sort out, although there are better designs that suit me. Altogether a highly recommendable machine…..well pleased.
MauriceSarson (verified owner) –
When I got it set up it is a very good lathe and would probably have got 5 stars, However the tapping for the leg screws was faulty and the bed had to be sent to Record to be re-tapped. When I got it set up and one rubber leg foot pulled through its washer, I have not received a replacement yet and when all set up to go the tail stock would not slide on the bed. After talking to Record staff, I had to spend about two hours with emery paper to get the tail stock to slide properly, obviously a slight machining fault. The quality control in production is not up to scratch hence only 3 stars but as I said a very good lathe to work with.
keithRowley (verified owner) –
fantastic lathe, solid quiet a pleasure to use
LesRobinson (verified owner) –
This is a really useful lathe and it sits at just the right height for me. The variable speed feature is extremely useful and makes a big difference from having to repeatedly change belt settings.
JimThreadingham (verified owner) –
I cannot say enough good things about this lathe, I upgraded from a smaller Axminster lathe and wow, what a difference. the quality and workmanship in the whole building is second to none, it is so quiet when running and loads of torque. I would recommend this lathe to any woodturner from starter to expert. Yandles as usual give the best service I have known, nothing is ever a problem with these guys, highly recommend.

I spent a lot of time thinking about which lathe to upgrade my 18 year old Record DML 36 with. I also considered converting it to variable speed with 3phase and an inverter. I decided on this lathe in the end because it has basically no bad review that I could find and does not weigh a ton. I would struggle to get a larger beast into my back garden, let alone the shed. I chose the option with bench feet as I have a lathe stand that is rock solid. I ignored the extended bed as in 18 years I only once used the length of the DML. This lathe is rock solid. Brilliant tool rest. So easy to adjust, never moves and no vibration. Variable speed is great. I like seeing the speed before I set it running. The fact that the swiveling head locks back in position over the bed is so nice (that’s a real pain on the DML).
Martin (verified owner) –
A fantastic lathe, never realised how useful it would be to have a movable headstock until I had one. Simple to put together and very sturdy.
douglasmorgan (verified owner) –
brilliant lathe. I’ve not had a chance to use its full potential, but so far, it’s quiet, very quiet. The build quality is superb. The banjo is a good length and with the outrigger should cater for all my needs. My only gripe, is the method removal of the tailstock centre. Would have preferred a self ejecting removal. However, it just takes getting used to.
Andrew (verified owner) –
Super happy with the lathe, great hight and very heavy. Easy to set up and very straight forward to use.
MartinSteiner (verified owner) –
Very helpful service from Yandles who certainly knew this product and gave first class advice. I was slightly puzzled however to hear from both Record and Yandles that this item was out of stock and probably wouldn’t arrive until after Christmas. It arrived within two days of the order! Not complaining, just amused.

Great machine very pleased with it so far.
Dan (verified owner) –
The service from Yandles was really good, there was a problem with items in my basket on the website but the sales person sorted it immediately. I have only turned a few projects on the lathe so far but my first impressions are very good. The lathe is very quiet, offers great functionality and is good value for money.
JimOBrien (verified owner) –
I bought this lathe with the bench feet to fit on my lathe stand to replace a Tyme Cub I had been using for a few years. The assembly instructions are excellent and the lathe itself is fantastic.
If you are looking for a lathe that is very robust, easy to use with excellent variable speed controls at what I consider a very reasonable cost look no further, if you buy one you will be delighted.

I have been using my coronet herald lathe for a couple of weeks now, and must say that I am very happy with it . I am new to woodturning and decided on a midi lathe, the coronet herald with the optional tubular legs is ideal, plenty of features, rock solid and very quiet. Thankyou Yandles Team
malachydruse (verified owner) –
I’m impressed with this lathe ; its quiet ; its powerful ; its electronically controlled ; I have just kept it on belt 3 setting which allows me to control speed with the turn of a dial from 290 to near 4000 ! ; can’t think i’ll ever need to change belt settings although 2 more settings are available ; the ability to swivel drive head to several preset fixed positions is another useful feature ; just owned for a few weeks but i couldn’t be much more pleased at this stage ; without hesitation 5 stars.

well, still putting it together, so cannot yet comment on use. First impressiosn are that it is a quality bit of kit. Everything is heavy and the flats seem well machines. The tailstock and banjo more like silk. It really doesn’t feel like any corners have been cut in design or production. There is a lot of degreasing to do before you can start assembly, but again this is one more example of attention to detail.. the manufacturer has done all they can to ensure the lathe arrives in good condition. I’ve no reason to believe that when I’ve got it up and running that it won’t be absolutely top class.

.I had the benefit of some training using this particular lathe before making the purchase. I was also able to see a couple of other [cheaper] makes in action. The Herald showed its build quality and quietness put it head and shoulders above the competition. This is a heavy duty lathe with features that aid the beginner as well as the experienced user. I look forward to spending time with this lathe as my skill grows.

Many thanks for your Outstanding customer service. I purchased a coronet herald and BS350S at the end of March, which I collected on 4th April. After almost a month, I finally got around to opening the boxes, only to discover that the lathe bench feet, which had been paid for, were not in the box. Totally my own fault, I should have read the specification. A phone call to Yandles resulted in the items being immediately dispatched and were received next working day. Many thanks to all the staff involved in the purchases and the resolving of the issue with the bench feet. A pleasure to deal with this company, I will be returning when funds permit!

Firstly, full marks to Yandles, excellent service as ever, with super fast delivery.
Judging by all the other review, I think I must have just been unlucky, The control unit failed after only three hours of use. I think there must have been a fault from the start, as when I turned the “on” switch, there was a sound like a spark, also the green “fwd” LED didn’t function.
Anyway, I live quite close to Chesterfield, so I took the motor and control unit back to Record Power, where Andrew from the Technical section was really very helpful, diagnosed the problem, and fitted a new PCB, so it’s now fine! Great service!
The Lathe itself is fantastic, very well made and finished, solid as a rock, with the headstock and tailstock perfectly aligned. The Banjo and tool rest moves as smooth as silk, and requires minimal tightening to lock them. Really super lathe.
Would undoubtedly have been 5 stars if not for the problem, hopefully that was just a “one off” electronics seem to either fail in the first week, or last forever, Hope I’ve got the “forever” one now!

Really is an absolute pleasure to work with this little powerhouse of a lathe, just upgraded from an old Reves drive machine and the difference is unbelievable. Can’t find anything even remotely bad to say about the lathe or Yandles exceptional service, top marks all round.
