African Rosewood has a rich colour, fine grain, and exceptional durability. Often recognized for its deep reddish-brown hues accented with darker streaks. African Rosewood is a notably dense hardwood, typically ranging from 830–900 kg/m³, giving your finished pens a substantial feel and impressive longevity. Its density contributes to excellent polish retention, allowing for a glass-like finish!

Despite its hardness, African Rosewood turns smoothly on the lathe, producing clean cuts with sharp tools. It sands and finishes exceptionally well, taking on a lustrous shine with minimal effort. Some natural oils within the wood may require light surface preparation before gluing, but overall it is considered highly workable for both beginners and experienced turners.
