Keith Rowley’s best-selling introduction to the art of woodturning is exceptional for its friendly and methodical approach, building up the reader’s skills and confidence by logical and progressive steps. At the heart of Keith’s method are the ‘Laws of Woodturning’: six easily memorized rules which are fundamental to efficient and safe technique. This thoroughly updated and expanded edition includes step-by-step instructions for 12 simple and effective projects: goblet, apple and pear, your first bowl, platter, bar stool, staircase balusters, plinth, inlaid nut bowl, twig pot, pepper mill, table lamp and twist pen.
Keith Rowley began his woodworking career as a joiner, developing a wide range of woodworking skills from first-fixing carpentry to fine cabinetmaking. Whilst serving in the police force, he continued woodturning on a professional basis. After retiring, he combined his commercial turnery with private courses and was in great demand as a demonstrator and teacher both in the UK and overseas. Sadly, Keith died in 2005 but his life-long wealth of woodturning experience is encapsulated in his writing. Woodturning: A Foundation Course has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide.

Not a cheap book, but as a someone new to wood turning, worth every penny. Everything is laid out logically and clearly explained. I’m guessing that when I am more experienced I will come back to this book again and again as a reference.
