Iain Aitchison (verified owner) –
I purchased this in order to turn the top of some bowls, after I had removed the tenon, due to some design/aesthetic suggestions from my partner. The chuck itself is relatively well put together, and the design allows for any size bowl from just a few inches up to the maximum size, which is great for slightly odd sized bowls.
The one major issue, and I believe it really is a big disappointment with this device, is the central bolt to which the silicone grippers surround sits up very high – around half an inch. This meant that every bowl it would grip, never sat true or flush with the chuck, and caused me no end of issues when turning.
Other chucks, such as the Charnwood ones sold here are all flush, and would allow a bowl to sit flat, keeping it true as it spins…however, this central bolt (which you can see in the picture) really is a poor design (I really don’t see why it couldn’t be recessed down and hidden).
The product worked mostly as expected, and other than a slight delay due to inventory issues, has been an OK purchase. However, for £139.99, I was expecting better from the creators of it and I’m now left wondering if I should spend more and get another flush chuck.
