Satinwood/Bhera woodturning blanks featuring a warm golden colour, fine interlocked grain and smooth turning performance.

From: £4.00 inc. VAT

Satinwood woodturning blanks available in various sizes.

The Satinwood/Bhera (Chloroxylon swietenia) Woodturning Blank offers a warm golden hue and a smooth natural sheen. The wood displays a rich golden-yellow to honey tone that deepens as it ages. Its fine interlocked grain forms a soft ribbon-like figure that adds a refined look to both decorative and functional turnings.

Sharp tools cut the wood cleanly and produce excellent results. Light, controlled passes help prevent tear-out in the interlocked areas. You can shape a high level of detail with ease, and sanding quickly creates a very smooth surface. These qualities make Satinwood/Bhera ideal for precise and detailed turning projects.

The wood takes finishes exceptionally well and its natural glow stands out with simple finishing methods. Oils such as Tung or Danish oil enhance its depth and warmth. Shellac and friction polish create a classic high-gloss surface. Wax and wipe-on polyurethane also work well and add a neat, durable finish. After fine sanding and buffing, the wood already shows a soft shine even before the final coat.

Please note the sizes displayed are approx. Due to timber coming from all over the world starting thicknesses vary up to 1/4“ depending on the origin. We use the umbrella guides of 1”,1.5”, 2”, 3” & 4”, but please be aware that all planks are planed one face to highlight the grain and to allow us to see faults which can result in under thickness. This can result in planks being under the thickness depending on the starting thickness. For example, Oak 2” is normally 2.1/8th before we plane which allows 2” thickness after we plane and 2×2 spindles or blanks. Native Ash is often 17/8th to 2” after drying and before we plane. This can plane to 1.75” and result in 1.75”x2” spindles. Whilst we always try and maintain the thickest board possible, sometimes it can be undersized. If you require a finished size of 2×2 we recommend purchasing a larger blank such as 3×3 and machining this back yourself. If you require sawn spindles or blanks please state in the comments section of the order and we can cut to order in our sawmill. Please note this service can take up to 10 working days.
