The complete scroll saw package, with a powerful DC motor allowing electronic variable speed control and a foot pedal switch to allow the operator to keep both hands on the work piece at all times. Perfect for hobby, craft and model making.
Electronic Variable Speed 16″ Throat Capacity Use Both Pin and Plain Ended Blades Integral Plain Blade Setting Jig LED Work light on Flexible Shaft Foot Pedal Control Switch Quick Action Blade Tension Adjustable Air Blower Spare Blade Storage Case Tilting Table with Sliding Mitre Fence Power Take Off for Rotary Drive 64 Piece Accessory Kit for Rotary Drive
A cast iron base provides stability and keeps vibration down to a minimum. It has 3 mounting points for those wishing to secure it to a workbench.
The aluminium work table has a tilting function from 90 to 45 degrees, and 2 slots to mount the sliding mitre fence for when a straight cut, rather than freehand, is required.
The scroll saw can cut up to a depth of 50mm in various materials. The parallel arm design gives a vertical cutting action for high quality results. There is an adjustable height foot clamp to hold the work piece down against the table and prevent chattering. An air blower keeps dust away from pencil lines to ensure they remain visible when following a template. A transparent guard keeps the operator safe from contact with the moving parts.
The addition of the foot pedal switch will transform the way you work with the saw. Once you have tried it you never want to be without it! The ability to stop and start without removing hands from the work piece, allows you to work quicker and more accurately, especially in complex designs.
A battery powered LED light on a flexible shaft allows light to be positioned directly onto the cutting area.
There are 2 types of scroll saw blades available: Pin end and Plain end. The SS16F can use either type.
Pin ended blades are easier and quicker to install, they simply hook over the blade hanger. With the benefit of the quick tension lever, a blade can be changed in a few seconds. Pin ended blades can be mounted front facing in the traditional position or at 90 degrees which provides more work table support, handy for certain projects.
Plain ended blades can be made thinner and are therefore more often used for very fine or intricate cutting. They require two blade clamps to be fitted prior to use. To assist there is an integral setting jig cast into the upper arm of the scroll saw. The jig ensures the clamps are set at the correct distance apart. The blade clamps then simply hook over the top and bottom hangers and blade tension is applied through the quick action lever.
On the side of the saw is a storage compartment to keep spare blades and service tools safe & ready to use.
To add another level of versatility to the scroll saw, we also include a power take off to fit a flexible rotary shaft. The rotary shaft has a 3.2mm collet chuck (compatible with Dremel type tools) and we include a 64 piece accessory kit enabling a wide variety of applications such as engraving, carving, routing, cutting, sanding & polishing.
Supplied with 1 Plain type blade, plain blade clamps, 1 Pin type blade, 1m flexible rotary shaft, accessory kit for rotary shaft, foot pedal switch with 1.3m cable, 2m power cable and UK 3 pin plug.

The Charnwood SS16F – 16” is an excellent machine for the price. It came well packaged and was easy to set up. You will need to bolt it down to a bench as it vibrates too much to be free-standing. I bought this scrollsaw instead of a bandsaw as I hand carve characters and thought it would be good to cut blocks of wood into smaller pieces and to drop the blade through a hole and remove more waste wood quickly. However, If you are cutting anything over 3/4″ thick it is an extremely slow process. I am pleased I bought it, and it is used regularly, but I need a bandsaw next!

Disappointed just about sums it up. The box arrived with the contents of the 64 piece accessories kit strewn all around the inside of the packaging. A simple bit of cellotape on the plastic case lid could have prevented this. Yandles did not even acknowledge my email on this. Nor did they acknowledge that same email that pointed out there was no drive to the flexible shaft on very first switch on. However, they obviously did forward this information on to Charnwood who were very quick to call me and suggest I take the cover off the power pick-off and check the belt. Sure enough, the belt had snapped. Charnwood were also very quick to send a replacement belt but on re-fitting this I noticed that the two cogs do not align correctly, indicative of the cheap crappy build down to a price, so I imagine the belt will likely snap again. Also, just because the Marketing blurb states “the rotary shaft has a 3.2mm collet chuck (compatible with Dremel type tools)” don’t imagine for a minute that the speed of this power take off is anything remotely like a real Dremel tool; 4,800rpm as opposed to 25,000-30,000 rpm of a Dremel. The picture shows a glassy smooth friction-less looking worktable, but in reality this is badly ridged / scored aluminium and the advertising blurb also suggests the cast iron base provides stability and keeps vibration down to a minimum. It doesn’t. This unit will have to be bolted down to a thick, heavy worktop to overcome the massive vibration. The air blower is pathetic. Installing batteries into the LED Work Light is extremely fiddly and I suspect the 3 tiny, tiny screws will all too easily go missing if dropped onto a busy workshop floor. As I said, disappointed, but as this is the first scroll saw I’ve ever owned and therefore I have nothing else to compare it with it’s cheap enough to get me started and, for the price, is probably throw away later…

I spent quite a time selecting this saw from the vast amount of saws on the market. I have never used a scroll saw before but I desperatly needed a new project.
At the age of 76 I found myself wasting my life doing nothing. The charnwood SS16F is a really easy tool to use. It is very quiet and almost vibration free. At the moment
I am awaiting the delivery of a book that teaches how to use the saw and projects to make. I would advise anyone thinking of buying a scroll saw to consider this model and if possible to go
Yandles to buy it. The service is great and they will show you the one they have on show. It is order only and delivered to your home but that is very quick and saves you having to carry it. In all a very good buy.

Full of features but poor Chinese build and materials. Table already has a crack where one of the hinged mounts attaches. What do you expect for £120. The foot control is handy when you are doing scroll work etc. I wouldn’t bother with the lamp but if you want to use it remove the head from the shaft to replace the batteries. Better – get a separate stand alone lamp if you need it. Mitre could be useful feature but not really necessary.

Nice piece of kit.Very quiet and works a treat. The only downside, is the material clamp ,mounted on the side which is a bit of a fiddle .

Recipient very pleased! Medically retired from the RAF, he is using it to make items to sell for the National Gulf War Veterans and Families Association. Thank you.

Works very well and has been used daily.

Very prompt delivery. Good value for money. The saw is hard to set up to eliminate side to side blade wobble. It is adequate for my purposes but I think it would struggle to accomplish very fine accurate cuts.

Great scroll saw for the price and its intended use as a hobby tool. Would recommend to help develop woodworking skills.
Easy to set up and use to great effect.

I am new to scrolling, and this is my first saw, so I don’t have anything to compare it with.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. Everything works as it should, and the build quality is OK. The foot switch is a nice addition, and I like it so much that I have bought another for use with other tools. My machine is not bolted down, but is placed on an anti-vibration mat. Noise and vibration are quite acceptable. Due to the weight distribution, the saw does tend to rock backwards and forwards a bit. I put a piece of stripwood under the rear which solves this, and also tilts the table slightly towards me, which I like.
    But.
The table was quite rough. This was easily remedied by a bit of gentle polishing,
