The Perfect Companion to True Grit Original

True Grit Superfine is a wax-based abrasive paste, made completely of natural and ethically sourced ingredients, all the way to the tub and labels! Superfine was made and developed with resin and hybrid users in mind, allowing them to greatly reduce scratches left by their initial sanding process.

We recommend sanding to 240 grit, applying our original True Grit Abrasive wax paste before then applying True Grit superfine as a final sanding step to leave a smoother, reflective surface.

A huge benefit to the superfine for resin/hybrid users is the incredibly fine dust created from micromesh pads and high grit sandpaper is eliminated and captured within the wax base.
Therefore protecting their lungs from microplastics and reducing the risk of health issues.  it works fantastically as a resin polish on both flat work such as river tables and round pieces such as resin bowls or pens.

Another use of True Grit Superfine as a final process for high gloss lacquer finishes. Designed to denib, buff and enhance any lacquer a woodturner chooses to use leaving an almost mirror like and ultra smooth finish to their work.

True Grit is a premium, wax-based finishing compound that delivers a beautifully smooth finish while significantly reducing airborne dust compared to traditional sanding methods. This product is ideal for woodturning, furniture making, and fine woodworking, True Grit can be used as a final finishing stage or as an intermediate step between sanding and your final wax polish. Its self-refining abrasive structure breaks down during use, gradually producing a finer finish while still maintaining effective cutting performance.

Beyond raw timber finishing, True Grit is also highly effective for denibbing and polishing lacquered surfaces, helping to achieve a deep, near-mirror gloss on completed projects with minimal effort.

For the ultimate finishing system, True Grit pairs perfectly with True Grit Original – taking that polish to the next level! If you’re looking for an all-in-one product, then its worth checking out the Chestnut Cut ’N’ Polish. This offers rapid scratch removal and polishing at the same time. Once you have finished your piece, you will need to apply a final finish that is dependent on the timber & use.  Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax is a good ‘all-rounder’ to pair with True Grit, offering a high-quality wax finish & long-lasting protection and shine, but please check to ensure what finish you require before applying.

  1. Sand your item to 240 Grit. We find sanding through the grits, sanding both radially with the lathe running and laterally with the lathe stationary work well to remove any sanding rings.
  2. Turn on the lathe and run at around 400-600 rpm. Work in the wax using a paper towel. The Abrasive in the wax will start to break down making your piece smoother whilst trapping the fine dust within the wax.
  3. When you are happy with the finish turn up the speed on your lathe and use a clean piece of paper buff until no residue.
  4. If you wish to apply a top coat, wax finishes can be added directly on top. If wishing to use a non-wax be sure to remove any remaining wax before applying your finish. This can be done with White Spirit or Meths.
  5. Now take a seat and admire your handy work!
