Delivery by Yandles was impeccable, though a steel pallet was used which is a pain to dispose of compared to timber.

The pillar drill is everything that the on-line reviews tell you; quality is superb, easy to assemble [15-mins] and a dream to operate. Reviewers generally moan about the chuck but I think it is good quality and has good run-out [less than 0.2mm], but first job was to swap-out with a quick release chuck, just because that is what I am used to. The convenience of changing speed of drilling is what this drill really is about and compared to a belt system, and its is staggeringly more convenient. Electronic auto-start and depth stop/reverse are nice-to-haves, but once you get used to them, you wonder why you’d ever do without. The only real moan is that changing various default settings involves really weird button press combinations and there is poor visual feedback as to whether settings have changed or not, but to be fair, most of these are change-once functions. It just involves a bit of trial and error.

First use was to drill and blind-tap [using the NOVA’s reverse function] a series of M12*50mm deep holes in aluminium bar and the NOVA did it without baulking one bit; the power-bar peaked at about 12%! Needless to say, anything thrown at it in wood-drilling has been equally fuss free.

For wood-working purposes, bought an Axminster table to fix to the NOVA table….clamping system is not a great match with the NOVA table because the NOVA table is relatively small, but some adaption of the Axminster is straightforward to make fit. I suspect the Woodpecker version would be better but as always, their stock is always difficult to get hold-of in the UK. Not relevant to Yandles, but a user might appreciate this nugget

All-in-all, well done Yandles, great product, great delivery, fuss free and actually the cheapest in the UK at the time! Both Yandles and NOVA thoroughly recommended

I love the drill and was great price from Yandles. It does have one small annoying feature though, and that is that if I turn on the light the depth display changes by 0.2mm, if I turn it off it changes back again. Contacted customer support at Tecnatool and received the following. “The depth sensor uses the same 5v power rails as the LED light. So when the LED light is turned on, it drops the voltages ever so slightly which is affecting the depth.”. It’s an issue they are working on but don’t have a solution for just yet. For me .. It’s annoying but makes no real difference, I’ll live with it.

This is exactly the Drill press I had been hunting for and it is AMAZING. The direct drive is super quiet, the speed adjustment as simple as twisting a knob, and the depth stop and reverse is simply stunning. Yandles were a delight to deal with and it arrived on a pallet in a few days. Pretty easy to set up – but kind of top heavy for one person to lift onto a workbench.

As a hobbyist wood turner with an extensive range of kit (my wife would say too much!) I can honestly say this machine is the most impressive and satisfying machine tool to have in your workshop.
I previously owned a few differing makes of belt driven, not cheap versions, that rattled, vibrated and never really produced a clean accurate hole. The nova is quiet, does not vibrate – you can hardly hear it run due to the direct drive from the overhead motor and most importantly, it produces an accurate and clean finished hole – what more could you wish for?
I would strongly recommend this to all (unlike my Laguna 18/36 lathe that has just failed due to a control box needing replaced). It may appear pricey but the way I see it I just view the price difference between it and the belt driven junk.
Hope this is of some help – just buy it!
