At Yandles, we believe in the power of timber as a sustainable resource. With the right practices, wood becomes one of the most eco-friendly, recyclable materials available—low in energy use, highly efficient, and excellent at storing carbon. That’s why environmental stewardship is at the core of everything we do when sourcing and using timber.
Responsible Timber Sourcing
We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that all timber meets the highest environmental standards. Our wood is sourced legally and sustainably from well-managed forests, in line with British law and wherever possible from PEFC or FSC-certified sources. We’re dedicated to eradicating illegal logging and supporting sustainable forest management as outlined by the United Kingdom Timber Regulations (UKTR).
While we don’t operate a full chain of custody scheme due to the nature of our self-selection centre, we still maintain long-term, trusted relationships with suppliers. This allows us to ensure that the timber we provide meets strict sustainability criteria. Our commitment to due diligence means that every new supplier undergoes a rigorous process to ensure their wood comes from recognized sustainable schemes.
Zero Waste Approach
Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond timber sourcing—it’s also evident in our production process. In both our sawmill and joinery shop, we strive to minimize waste. Off-cuts from production are available for purchase in our self-selection centre, and sawdust finds new life as bedding for local farmers. Even the unusable parts of timber are repurposed, becoming materials for natural fencing, pallets, and small projects.
We also prioritize reusing other materials—like cardboard, which is used for packaging—and ensure any waste we can’t reuse is sent to recycling.
