Looking for a fun and festive way to decorate your home this Halloween? Why not try making a pumpkin out of fabric? This is a simple craft that anyone can do, and it’s a great way to add some seasonal flair to your décor. In this tutorial, we will show you how to make a pumpkin out of fabric using basic sewing skills. So gather your supplies and let’s get started!
Materials needed
- Fat quarter of fabric
- Stuffing
- Pinking scissors (optional)
- Scissors
- Pen
- Thread
- Plate
- Hessian
- Needle
- Glue gun
Instructions
Step 1: First, take your fabric and place it flat on the table. Then, take your plate and use the pen to trace a circle on the fabric.
Step 2: Next, cut out your circle, this doesn’t have to be very neat. We used pinking scissors but this can be done with normal scissors instead.
Step 4: Turn your fabric inside out and begin to pull the end of the thread to start to gather the fabric.
Step 5: Stuff your pumpkin to the desired amount.
Step 6: Pull the thread a tight as you can and do a few stitches as close to the top as you can to fasten the fabric and hold in place.
Step 7: To make the pumpkin stem, cut some hessian approximately 7cm wide and 5cm long. Using a glue gun, roll it up and glue the edge.
Step 8: Push the hessian roll in the center of the pumpkin to fit it in place.
Ta da! Handmade pumpkins! You can make these in a range of different fabrics and colours, and you can even wrap twine around the pumpkins to give them more shape.
