Rhodesian Teak (Baikiaea plurijuga), a remarkable exotic hardwood. This pack includes 5 blanks, each roughly 3/4″ × 3/4″ × 6″ long (often larger), perfect for pens, small turning projects, and decorative items.

Origin & Rarity:
Rhodesian Teak comes from southern Africa, primarily Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Angola, Botswana and neighbouring regions. It’s also known by local names like Zambesi redwood, Mukusi and Gusi. Although not a true teak species, this African hardwood is highly coveted for its colour, density and durability.

Colour & Grain:
Each blank showcases medium reddish‑brown heartwood often accented with darker streaks or flecks, contrasted by distinct pale pinkish‑yellow sapwood. The grain ranges from straight to slightly interlocked, with a fine, even texture that gives the wood a refined, elegant look.

Hardness & Performance:
Rhodesian Teak is an exceptionally hard and dense hardwood, with a Janka hardness around 2,990 lbf (13,300 N) — significantly harder than many common exotic timbers. This density provides excellent wear resistance and durability, making it ideal for items that see regular use.

Workability:
Due to its high density and silica content, Rhodesian Teak can be challenging to turn — it may blunt cutting tools more quickly and requires sharp edges and careful technique. However, once turned, it sands and polishes beautifully, taking finishes exceptionally well and revealing deep, lustrous colour and grain character.
