Create stunning, eye-catching pens with Birdseye Maple. Distinctive “bird’s-eye” figuring and pale, creamy colour, each blank showcases unique swirls and tiny circular patterns that give the wood its signature look—making every finished pen a true one-of-a-kind piece.
Birdseye Maple, a figured form of Maple is a medium-to-high density wood, giving your finished pens a solid, quality feel while still remaining comfortable to hold and easy to balance. Birdseye Maple is known for its good workability, especially with sharp tools. It turns cleanly on the lathe, though care should be taken around areas with intense figuring. It sands to a smooth, satiny surface and accepts oils, waxes, lacquers, and CA finishes exceptionally well—producing a bright, crisp sheen that highlights the dramatic patterns.
Birdseye Maple is considered less common than standard Maple due to the rarity of its natural figuring.
