The Record Power RSBG8 Bench Grinder has a long-established reputation for robustness and reliability, making it the perfect choice for the home workshop. This new and upgraded machine has an industrial-inspired design with a heavy-duty motor and offers improved power, stability and performance.
It features fully adjustable tool rests with solid locking mechanisms to give optimum support. The cast iron base and sturdy body reduce vibration to give the smooth operation that is essential for successful and accurate sharpening. Rubber feet also dampen vibration whilst ensuring the grinder does not move during use. The wide body of the machine further increases stability and minimises the load on the bearings for increased life.
The 40 mm white stone is ideal for giving a fine finish, particularly to HSS turning tools, while the more coarse grey stone is perfect for rougher grinding and shaping. In addition, the spark guard of the white wheel features a magnifying lens to aid fine sharpening.
The build quality and reliability of this grinder is significantly higher than some of the more common and cheaper machines which generally have lower powered motors and are substantially lighter. Record Power grinders are designed to give many years of service and replacement stones are readily available should the original ones become worn out, a sure sign of the robustness of these machines.

On first inspection the grinder looks fine but the white wheel is on the right and the grey wheel is on the left side, being right handed and primarily interested in sharpening woodturning tools I wished to have the white wheel on the left.
Thinking this would be a simple task to switch I removed the wheels only then realising the different widths and the different lengths of the spindle, also the protective cover are handed so it is not possible to switch a wider wheel to the left.
I have now reverted to the standard set up and not sure who to proceed. I have not yet used the grinder as getting it set up with the Sorby jig is proving an issue.

Appears to be a good grinder, well made, east to assemble. I bought it just to sharpen wood turning chisels etc. I haven’t used it that much, my only concern is it gets very hot very quickly which worries me slightly !

Record Power 8 inch bench grinder . This is a very solidly built item and once up to speed it runs quietly ( bit of vibration as it runs up and down) The tool rests are far better made than on most grinders I looked at. The white wheel is good and wide. The only thing that would further improve it is a flexible light to light the work area. I can recommend the product.

Purchased the 8″ Record grinder about 12 months ago and can report that it is an excellent piece of kit. A few amendments were required, which I have commented directly to Record technical, in that there seemed to be excessive vibration. Long story short… Had to remove the spacers that grip the wheels and true them up on a lathe as they were very out of balance. The wheels then needed dressing and now whilst not perfect are pretty good.
Motor has plenty of power, doesn’t run hot and the whole grinder is very good.

Runs smoothly on my home made stand. I like the NVR safety feature and large adjustable tool rests. There is a good quality feel about the unit. There was a slight delivery delay but communications were good. The grey wheel was damaged, it looked a manufacturing issue as the packaging was undamaged. I’m waiting for Record to send a replacement grey wheel which is on back order, I find it difficult to understand that they have no stock. Five stars for Yandles.

The Record Power bench grinder is simply an awesome piece of kit. Well built, heavy and just right for my needs. I’ve ordered a number of items from yandles and they’re a true woodworking company that gives the buyer confidence when ordering online.

This is a really heavy duty piece of equipment, it came quickly from Yandles, in its original well padded packaging, which protects it from any damage during transit. The instructions are clear and setup is very basic only requiring a pozi screwdriver.
Both wheels were true, and when running, there’s no noticeable vibration, and it doesn’t really need to be bolted down, as it doesn’t “ride” across the bench. ( for safety’s sake I’ll bolt it down though)
The motor is powerful, yet nice and quiet,
All in all a very capable machine.
But…… and hence the 4 stars, the tool rests are bloody awful!.
The castings that clamp together to stop rotational movement, are far too “rough” with effectively only three “click stop” positions. There are a few degrees of movement on the rear adjustment knob, but setting an exact bevel angle is difficult.
I’m surprised that I’ve not seen this mentioned before.
Also,
The tool rests could be larger, and only give a maximum angle of about 45 degrees, making it impossible to grind a more acute angle for a special job, other than adding something to the platform.
Would definitely be 5 stars were it not for the tool rests.

Bought this to replace my old 6” Record bench grinder, excellent machine, really like the wider white wheel, used on my wood turning gouges.

Initially seemed a great buy for £99.99 BUT you probably need to buy the recommended dressing and cleaning sticks (+£20). AlsoI think the tool platforms are pretty hopeless and have limited range so I am looking at some external platform (?£48) and maybe even to need an additional tormek jig (+£80) so I can use my current sharpening systems.
