The rip fence that comes with the bandsaw can make a large gap between the guides and the table when making thin cuts on wood up to about 5 inchesthick.. Effectively the guide assembly hits the tall fence. This lower fence allows you to have the guides closer to the material with less blade unguided….results in a better cut. Leave the tall fence for wider, thicker cuts. Recommended, same quality material as the tall fence.

This is an ideal add-on to the Sabre 350 as the main rip fence is very tall and does not allow the upper blade guides to be lowered down far enough when cutting narrow pieces, unless the main rip fence is put into the low position. The only problem that I found is that Record do not supply any nylon inserts to fit in the far end of the fence to prevent it from scratching the table, ( the main rip fence is fitted with these, but they are not interchangeable with the small rip fence).

Fantastic addition to my BS400. Leave it fitted most of the time now as it’s a great happy medium fence. The original is very tall and whilst great for deep cutting work, it has its limitations on smaller work below 150mm in height because of the guide assembly in the way. This lower fence allows me lower the blade post and guides lower down on smaller work for accuracy on cuts and to get thin cuts close to the fence now.
