Air dried beam oak. Like our lintels, but with a few more knots or cracks, but all are structurally sound. Dried outside for two year plus to aid stability . This aids in stability of the timber as the major moisture reduction in the piece has already happened.
It can have large knots, large pockets of in-bark or splits across the whole length
They will have splits or wind shakes on the face from the air drying process. There can also be large splits that go to the heart of the piece or knots that can be quite large, but they will not effect the structural integrity of the oak.
The sawn oak lintel is a grey colour and planed is a dark golden colour.
Cut off square to length.
It is a natural product and so can change.
Air dried oak dries naturally outside. This means it can crack and twist, which creates a unique feature and is not considered a fault. In line with grading rules the timber can be up to 10mm out of straight over a 2m length, although we always try to keep this to a minimum.
This product is planed from a 200×100 sawn piece and so the finished dimensions are under the stated dimensions to allow for machining. This could be up to 10mm either way.
