Our prime air dried oak lintels are made from oak that has been aired dried for two years or more. This aids in stability of the timber as the major moisture reduction in the piece has already happpened.
Cut from Air dried Oak plank that has been cut, sticked and dried undercover to ensure an even drying process these pieces maintain the golden oak colour without the wind shakes or greyness of beam oak. The moisture content will be much lower than in beam oak, giving a more stable product. It still can have small knots and trace of heart shake on one face. Planed sections are up to 8mm smaller than the sawn section to allow for the machining process.
The sawn oak lintel is a grey colour and planed is a dark golden colour.
Cut off square to length.
It is a natural product and so can change.
Air dried oak dries naturally outside. This means it can crack and twist, which creates a unique feature and is not considered a fault. In line with grading rules the timber can be up to 10mm out of straight over a 2m length, although we always try to keep this to a minimum.
