Product Description

Using the natural edge of the timber, to create a traditional cladding for your building, porch or fence. Each plank will be unique giving you something no one else will have.

Cut to order on site. We can cut the width and thickness you require.  We will try to ensure the length is as close to your requirements as possible, but it is dependant on the trees available on site. Maximum length is 4m. With small orders under 10m2 the length is dependant on other orders being processed by the sawmill at the time.

Yandles Cladding is machined on site to ensure great quality every time.

Cut to order to ensure the quality of product at the time of use. Oak does not keep well unless stripped to allow air to get to the boards and stop staining and maintain shape.

We have allowed 20% extra to cover overlap in the laying the board.

Random Widths between 200-400mm. When cutting we try to keep the sizing as consistant as possible, but there will be variations as every plank is different.

Cracking in Green Oak

As oak dries out it shrinks across the grain and develops splits and cracks, sometimes also called ‘shakes’.  These run with the grain of the timber meaning that they do not affect the structural integrity of the beam. This process happens quicker in the summer as the sun and the wind quicken the drying process and mean that fresh sawn beams can have shakes on the surface even if they have been cut recently especially in summer. These should not be seen as a fault, but as natural character which is unique to each piece.

Green Oak

Fresh Swan or Green Oak refers to timber cut fresh from a log and ranges in colour from pink to pale honey, weathering to grey.  It is renewable, as a frame lasts for over 100years, the same time it takes to grow with careful management in such schemes as FSC or PEFC.  We can cut sizes up to 300mm square and 6m long.  Larger beams are available to order in shorter lengths.

Use stainless steel fixings to avoid tanin stains on the oak. Always pre drill to avoid splitting on the end of the boards.

Pre drill to ensure the the oak doesnt split.

Start at the bottom with the thick end down and screw the thin end to the battens behind. Then lay the next piece over the top covering the fixing and overlapping about 50mm to create a weatherproof cladding. Repeat until you reach the top. The top screws will be visable, but these can be plugged with oak or left visable. For a smart finsh and ensure square edges you can box the featheredge with oak planks
