The ProEdge by Robert Sorby represents the ultimate system for sharpening your woodworking tools. Its unique design incorporates many years of experience in producing the keenest of edges accurately and efficiently.

The ProEdge is the latest innovative product to come from Robert Sorby. It takes all the guesswork and effort out of sharpening all your woodworking tools – bench, framing, carving and turning chisels, drill bits and plane irons – as well as knives and garden tools. The ProEdge requires no complex assembly – it can be plugged in and used straight from the box.

One of the great challenges facing any woodworker is keeping a consistent bevel angle on their tools. With the ProEdge nothing is left to chance. The patented angle setter ensures that the same angle is achieved time after time. It incorporates a pre-set of all the most popular bevel angles – 90º, 80º, 60º, 45º, 35º, 30º, 25º, 20º, 15º. This is a strong well engineered unit which can be located anywhere in the workshop.

As the ProEdge largely replicates the tool sharpening system in the Robert Sorby factory it is not only tried and tested over many decades, it is also highly efficient and safe.

Sharpening is carried out by means of a series of inexpensive abrasive belts - aluminium oxide for bench and carving chisels, knives and plane irons; zirconium for HSS turning tools, drill and router bits: ceramic for rapid heavy duty sharpening.

Any changing of belts is a simple, straightforward task. Because of the composition of each belt, sharpening is extremely rapid and yet there is a professional, high quality finish. As the sharpening operation is quick, there is no fear of over-heating and consequently damaging the tools.

To make sharpening even more accurate there is a series of accessories which can be fitted to the ProEdge:

Skew Jig - to give the correct presentation angle of turners’ skew chisels
Square Jig - for presenting square tools at 90 degrees to the sharpening belt
Gouge Jig - in the format of a vee block to prevent pivoting when sharpening a turners’ gouge
Fingernail Profiler - to create swept back wings on a turners’ gouge
Cutter Holder - to accept those small tool tips
Rubberised Honing Wheel - for the inside of gouges
Pigtail mandrel, buffing mop and paste - add a highly polished finish to any tool
Short Platform - enables easier access for miniature or worn tools

"This has to be the easiest way to to sharpen skews, gouges, chisels and plane blades ever. If you struggle with sharpening like I did this is the answer. OK it a bit pricy but worth it for time saved. Solid built and delivered very quickly. Wish I had bought it a lot sooner. "

"This system is fantastic I have struggled for many years with a wet stone sharpener, my friend bought one and told me about it I then had a look at a review on You Tube and decided to buy it and I am definitely not disappointed, all the chisels I have are now sporting razor sharp level edges, you won't be sorry about this sharpener, also I would like to recommended Randles and Son as they are an excellent company, with next day delivery when I ordered, get your order in you won't regret it."

I has put a razor sharp edge on all my woodturning chisels, it's the first time they have been like they are now for years. "For years I have always used a bench grinder with white stones to sharpen my woodturning tools and I have always been happy with the result. I thought I would treat myself to a new and hopefully better sharpening system so I bought the Robert Sorby ProEdge Deluxe System and I am so glad I did because this ProEdge is awesome, I took it to the workshop and set it all up then I grabbed my turning tools and set to having a sharpening session, In about 1 hour I had all my woodturning tools finished with a razor sharp edge and these tools now cut better than ever before. This is a top quality solid machine that is very quick and easy to use, it sharpens woodturning tools faster and better than my bench grinder and the best feature is the consistent results you just cannot go wrong. "WOW, what a piece of kit! Having got back into woodworking & started wood turning over the past couple of years I have purchased a fair few new tools and machines, this is by far the most impressive and effective in my workshop. Other than a few resharpens being required to a 1" oval skew chisel (all down to my lack of experience using the machine) the Pro edge is effortless and actually makes the chore of sharpening tools a pleasure. I purchased the Pro-Edge Ultimate package which was a great deal from Yandles and included nearly all of the jigs that I required. Working through the various grit grades, taking time, gives a superb edge and finish on all of the chisels I have sharpened to date. Only two niggles I have are 1) you have to move the tool rest to get the side guard off to switch belts and the nuts securing the side guard are a little fiddly, larger knobs or wing nuts could be a potential modification I might employ at some stage, 2) the electrical junction box which sits on top of the motor can make access for some angle grinds a bit tight, having it mounted on the back of the motor would have been better in my opinion. Other than the couple of points above I am more than happy with the purchase and will be purchasing more jigs going forward."

"After a lot of research I bought the Pro Edge system because i realised the difference a sharp edge and correctly angled bevel made. Probably it's the biggest difference and, interestingly the safest difference. When it's sharp you can let the tool do the work. It's not cheap but, then, it's built to last and other systems aren't cheap either! I've probably spent two days or more sharpening my turning tool collection, longer when i take into account the re-purposing of some old tools. I've yet to tackle my woodworking chisels and planes and my wife's carving tools but, so far, i'm well pleased with results. Why Yandles? Well, they were competitively priced, particularly with their sale offer, service and, simply, support of vendors with demo kit and a wide range of specialist timber selection."
