PT107-HB 10″ x 7″ Helical Block Heavy Duty Planer Thicknesser (2-Spiral)
This Planer Thicknesser is perfectly suited to the discerning woodworker who expects professional, reliable performance from a solid and durable machine but doesn’t have the space or budget for a larger industrial machine.
At the heart of this machine is the helical cutter block. It features 26 TCT cutter heads arranged in a helical format over two rows. The blades themselves are machined to a convex profile to achieve a shear cut, resulting in an extremely high-quality finish to the timber. This method of cutting is extremely efficient and reduces the power consumed and strain on the machine when compared to the traditional 3-knife cutter block planer thicknesser. The arrangement of the cutter blocks also allows for increased airflow between the blades, ensuring the air is exhausted from the machine efficiently which greatly reduces the operating noise by up to 50% over traditional machines.
The helical block creates small, evenly sized chippings, meaning more effective extraction is achieved, further adding to the operating efficiency of this machine. The TCT blades last 10-20 times longer than traditional HSS planer blades and each cutter block has four sides, so when the blades become blunt, simply rotate them to expose a fresh cutting edge. In comparison to a traditional 3-knife machine, blade change and setup is simple and easy as each cutter block is secured to the block in a fixed position – meaning no intricate setup operations are necessary.
Heavy duty cast iron tables give this machine a degree of accuracy not found elsewhere on machines of this capacity or price bracket – infeed table is easily and accurately adjusted using the robust lever and clear depth scale. In addition, the PT107 also boasts an outfeed table adjustment facility, meaning truly exact calibration can be achieved to ensure superior accuracy when planing.
For easy, rapid conversion to thicknessing mode, the hood is a large, steel one-piece swinging design. The thicknessing table is supported by a substantial central column, giving plenty of support to even the heaviest workpieces. To aid the thicknessing of particularly difficult stock, a clutch is provided on the thicknessing feed to allow removal of stock if jamming occurs. This also means that the thicknesser can be disengaged when not in use to save wear and tear on internal parts.
