Pyrography is the craft of decorating wood using a heated pen to create lines\, patterns\, and images. It’s relaxing\, creative\, and easier to start than you might think. \nThis hands-on workshop is designed for complete beginners. You’ll learn the basic techniques of pyrography and have plenty of time to practise while creating your own wooden pieces to take home. \nDuring the day you will learn how to: \n\n\nUse a pyrography pen safely and confidently \n\n\nCreate different lines\, shading\, and textures \n\n\nTransfer simple designs onto wood \n\n\nBuild up patterns and images step by step \n\n\nFinish and protect your work \n\n\nAll tools\, materials\, and guidance are provided\, so you can simply turn up and enjoy the experience. DESCRIPTION:Our Texturing and Decoration Techniques on Woodturning course is a geat way to explore ways to enhance your turned projects. \nJoin us for a focused 2-hour hands-on session where you’ll learn how to decorate and colour your turned wood pieces using a range of texturing techniques. This workshop is designed for participants with some prior woodturning experience. \nYou’ll work with different tools and materials to explore ways of enhancing the surface of turned shapes. Techniques will include the use of the Robert Sorby texturing and spiralling tool\, along with other methods to create patterns and visual interest. We’ll also cover basic colouring approaches to help bring your designs to life. \nEach participant will take home their sample pieces from the session. Led by a skilled furniture maker with over a decade of teaching expertise\, this program serves as a gateway to the world of joinery\, box making\, furniture crafting\, and beyond. \nThroughout this course\, you will acquire the following skills: \n\nPrecise marking techniques employing engineer squares\, marking knives\, rulers\, and various marking tools.\nMastery of sawing methods using both western and Japanese-style saws.\nHandcrafted cutting and fitting of joints using chisels.\nProper care and sharpening techniques for your tools.\n\nImmerse yourself in a day of hands-on learning as you explore the intricate techniques for creating accurate hand-cut joinery through sawing and chiseling. By the end of the course\, you will proudly take home a small but impressive piece\, such as a trivet\, pot stand\, or mug stand\, showcasing your newly acquired woodworking skills. \nYou will not need to bring any materials with you. This workshop is designed for those with some prior woodturning experience — it’s not suitable for complete beginners. \nUnder guidance\, you’ll work with freshly cut green oak to rough out a bowl blank on the lathe. The emphasis will be on safe tool use\, basic shaping\, and preparing your bowl for drying. You’ll take your part-turned bowl home to dry and complete the finishing process later. \nAll tools and materials are provided.
