Product Description

The Arbortech Ball Gouge is a unique tool designed for power carving. It has a cutting ring on a 30mm spherical ball with a 90mm arm that attaches to any standard 100mm (4") or 115mm (4.1/2") angle grinder. The cutting action produces fine shavings rather than dust.

This ball gouge gives you the ability to make smooth hollows and concave recesses in spoons or small bowls and safely undertake freehand shaping and carving. It allows you to create an interesting, dimpled, chisel-like texture when moved across a wooden surface.

The perfectly engineered balance provides exceptional control and prevents dig-ins and grabbing. This offers greater control over the depth and final appearance of a project.

When in use the cutting ring is self-sharpening. While one side of the ring cuts, the opposite side of the ring is polished. By simply loosening and rotating the ring, you will achieve a freshly sharpened edge. The previously used edge then undergoes self-sharpening, more than doubling the life of the cutting ring.

Includes key for adjusting the cutter.

"I like making bowls, but I don't have a Lathe. I used to sit for hours with a bent gouge slowly chipping away the wood mass to make the shape I needed. This little beast has changed everything. Whilst it is expensive for what it is... it is excellent at what it does. I can rough carve a 6-7 inch bowl in about 5-10mins with this, and it has a surprising finesse to what you can do with it. If you want to remove wood mass quickly just plough into the wood, and after an explosion of wood chips everywhere (not dust) you'll be left with a big gap where wood once was. You can then angle the ball gouge and lighlty feather the wood to achieve a quite impressive smooth finsh. Overall this this little thing provides a level of control I wasn't expecting with a very quick learning curve - very happy with this :)"

"Fantastic piece of equipment . Have used it on various woods. Takes a little practice as one would expect Slight design flaw in threaded socket, the first 12 mm of thread has been machined out soOnly engages on limited threads in socket hole. May be be long term issue as thread wears ? Otherwise fantastic "
