1871 - 1975: Origins Carl Mesenhöller founded carolus 1871 in Remscheid. Remscheid acquired its tradition as a tools producing region during the middle age: all natural materials for engineering tools can be found in this region (iron, wood and water power). First during the 15th. century and again with the industrial revolution the area faced a very positive development. Still today is Remscheid the city of tools.
1975 – 2010: Growth 1975 the grand child of Carl Mesenhöller decided to give Carolus a new direction and started with the import of high quality products from Asia. The conception of the new products remains under German control, conformly to the former slogan: "Intelligent tools". At that time, Carolus became famous for its 1/4" ratcheting programm and its focus on work in a tight space. Thanks to very application specific products and very flexible sets carolus is fitting the needs of each customer and enjoys a good reputation within the branch. Some very clever tools are still well known today: Readyflex, Conterflex, and Maximus.
2010: Revolution Mai, 1st, 2010. carolus starts setting new references in the branch. The new carolus gets born. The time of shiny products is over! No blinding products or well ironed overalls. Tools are presented in their real environment. The range is concentrating on the bare essentials but offers all that, what a good worker needs. No matter if you are an old fellow or if you belong to the young generation, you will feel comfortable with carolus.
