Maple - Acer Sacchafum (North America)

Kiln Dried. Light, almost white timber. Quite dense but works well.

Masur Birch - Betula Alba (Finland)

Cream coloured with dark markings caused by larvae which gives an attractive pattern.

Masur Birch is often stocked. It will possibly be available in our main shop in Martock. Please phone or email for details of current stocks.

Oak - Quercus Petraea/Sessiferflora (UK)

Air dried. Heartwood is light tan to biscuit coloured.

Olive - Olea Europaea (Spanish)

Part seasoned. Heartwood is light to dark brown with brown streaks giving the appearance of marble.
Very easy to turn.

Ovangkol - aka Amazaque Guibourtia Ehie (Ivory Coast)

Kiln dried.
Heartwood from light yellow to brown with grey or black stripes. Takes an excellent finish.

Padauk - Pterocarpus Soyauxii (Cameroon)

Kiln Dried. (unless otherwise stated) Golden pink to vividred when cut, mellowing to deep plumb red with very light golden sapwood.

Pau Amarello - Euxlophora Paraensis Hurber (Brazil)

Bright yellow in colour with a course grain, similar in structure to Purpleheart. It turns well.

Pink Ivory - Berchemia Zeyheri (South Africa)

Heartwood varies from light to dark pink with lighter and darker shades of yellow and red. We carry very limited stock due to the fact that felling of this species has been stopped for a number of years and the timber is very rare.

Purpleheart - Peltogyne Venusa (Brazil)

Kiln dried.
Heartwood turns from dull brown to quite purple when exposed to light. Darkens over a period of time.
